Why Online Train Ticket Booking Was a Hassle Before?
Before the online ticket booking scheme, people have to stand in a serpentine queue at the appropriate ticket counter to book railway tickets. And then come's online booking system, in which travelers had a choice of booking their travel ticket online by themselves specifying the FROM and TO location in the portal then make the payment with either debit/credit/internet banking system and complete the booking.
In the initial period when the booking was made online, there wasn't any hassle booking, ticket online, since internet users were less and people had not much trust in online booking, due to the security reason. However, due to the mass evolution of the internet, Internet users were increased gradually and eventually Overloaded the portal with an infinite request each second.
Since several requests plunge into the IRCTC server at a particular time period, it got clogged with n number of the login requests. So the server allowed only a few requests following First Come First Serve Algorithm, hence the remaining people who are trying to log in at the same time have to wait in a queue, and once the traveler completes his transaction, then the next person in the queue was allowed to do login. This algorithm has affected not only the person who is trying to book tickets but also the traveler who is trying to do login to check the status of books ticket, print the confirmed ticket (or) to do inquiry.
Even today the IRCTC follows the same FCFS i.e First Come First Serve methodology, but this curb is only for Ticket booking and not for the Login to check PNR status, Print Ticket or Enquiry.
Why Check for Ticket Confirmation, Before Booking?
When all the tickets of the train, have been sold-out for a journey, then the upcoming bookings done, were made as Waiting List. For booking can be done a month or two ago, before a journey, for some reason, If the traveler would opt to cancel the ticket, the traveler who is 1st in the waiting list queue, will get a chance to travel.
When a confirmed ticket was canceled by the traveler, the amount will be refunded back to the traveler's account, and the traveler will be levied minimum amount for cancellation of confirmed ticket. Whereas, if you have booked a Tatkal ticket, no amount will be refunded back to traveling in case of cancellation, however, if the booking was not confirmed after the chart preparation, then the amount will be refunded back by levying service charges.
Even though the amount will be refunded, if the booking is not confirmed for waiting list passengers, But the refund amount excludes service charges, online transaction charges, etc., only the original ticket amount will be refunded back to the customer. So it's better to know whether your Booking against waiting list IRCTC tickets will get confirmed or not, before booking.
